- Grant Writer
Description
We are seeking a professional writer or experienced grant writer for our wildlife conservation organization. This means creating a grant calendar and timely submission of grant proposals to foundations we have worked with in the past, as well as finding new grant opportunities. Working with the executive director and the board chair, you will determine best projects that suit the grantors. It is important to establish good relationships with grantors, which requires frank communication, dedication to the cause, an understanding of the grantor's objectives and how this organization fits their goals. The knowledge, enthusiasm, professional approach and ideas you bring can make the difference. You will keep up-to-date information on the grantor's personnel with whom you work, and keep them informed about our work, and our progress achieving goals.
This is a time of peril for wildlife. Grant letters of inquiry and applications must be captivating, inviting the grantor to want to be involved in exciting educational projects that result in real progress for the protection of Montana's magnificent wildlife now and in the future.
Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication, sound judgment and the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, web-based applications, excel spreadsheets and financial reports. Access to and knowledge of Adobe Express or a similar platform that creates graphs and visual images for illustration.
- Preparation and ability to meet deadlines well in advance. Often the best chance for grants is by early submissions, as soon as the grant period opens. This requires communicating with the grantor both by phone and email/text to confirm the process and learn any particular emphasis the grantor may have an interest in.
- Attention to detail is crucial. A working knowledge of projects and issues the organization is involved in is imperative. Our newsletters and website are sources. Must get background information to support project value. The ED can provide history, polls, and information that can bolster the grant LOI and application.
- Keep the executive director and the board chair apprised of progress and information about the grantors.
- Occasionally attend zoom quarterly board meetings when requested to give a report.
